Your Gut Health May Be Talking To Your Hair

Healthy hair doesn't begin with what you put on your scalp, it is also influenced by what is happening inside your body. Your digestive system plays an important role in breaking down food and absorbing nutrients needed to support normal hair growth, including protein, iron, zinc, and certain vitamins. When digestive health is compromised, nutrient absorption may be affected. In addition, ongoing inflammation in the body can influence the normal hair growth cycle in some people and may contribute to increased shedding. This is why I encourage people experiencing hair loss to look beyond the scalp. Your hair may be giving you clues that it's time to take a closer look at your overall health.

Coming Soon: I'll be exploring the fascinating connection between gut health and hair loss in an upcoming episode of Hair, Hormones & Health with Dr. Parker.
